Most often it is food residue on the metal end above the black part, which is where it charges. Even a thin layer can stop it charging, or let the battery drain while it sits in the base. Clean it after every cook with the rough side of a sponge and a little washing up liquid. If you cook in a smoker a lot, scale builds up there that you cannot see, and a light rub with fine sandpaper takes it off. If it still will not charge, write to us through our support form.
Unlimited. The probe talks to the charging base over MEAT MATE Link, which holds through walls and oven doors. The base joins your WiFi and sends the cook to MEAT MATE Cloud, so you can follow it in the app from anywhere with internet. No WiFi? The base connects straight to your phone over Bluetooth instead, within about 10 metres.
The app notifies your phone when the meat reaches your target, so you do not have to keep checking. You can also set alerts for time, for the heat around the meat, and an early alert at a temperature you choose, for when something needs doing before it is done.
Yes, on iPhone and iPad with iOS 12.2 or later, and on Android 8.0 or later. Download the MEAT MATE app from the App Store or Google Play.
Yes, it is made for both. The stainless steel probe handles up to 500°C / 932°F around it, so it can stay in the oven or on the grill for the whole cook.
Up to 24 hours on a full charge, enough for a long low and slow cook. It charges in its base between cooks.
Push the probe into the thickest part of the meat, past the insertion line marked on the probe, and keep the tip away from bone and large pockets of fat. The thickest part is the last to cook, so that is the reading that tells you when it is done.

That is normal. As meat cooks, its fibres tighten around the probe, and it can take a firm pull to get it out. Grip the part that sticks out as close to the meat as you can, not the very end of the probe, and pull it straight out. Too much force on the far end can pull the probe apart.
No. Download the app, connect the base to your WiFi once, and the probe is ready whenever you take it out of the base.
The base shows it on its screen while the probe charges. The base has to be switched on for the screen to show anything, so turn it on to check.
The probes are numbered 1 and 2. The number is marked on the end of each probe and shown on screen beside its reading.
Always try to avoid direct contact with the grate and the flames. The probe handles up to 500°C / 932°F around it, and the app warns you if it gets too hot.
Yes. The probe talks to the base over MEAT MATE Link, which holds through thick grill lids, walls and oven doors, even with the meat wrapped in foil. The battery lasts up to 24 hours, and the base shows the temperature on its own screen and sounds an alarm when the meat is done, so you are covered even if your internet drops.
